Should you remain or depart from Schalke? - Geraerts' decision set for release next week
Karel Geraerts, Schalke's coach, still isn't revealing his future plans two days before the last league game in Fürth on Sunday at 3:30 pm on Sky. However, he does hint at a possible continuation of his time with the club.
Geraerts' next steps!
The Belgian coach mentioned earlier this season that he would discuss his future with the club management. A focal point of these talks is whether they can align on their vision for the upcoming season.
The discussions now seem to be complete. Over the past few days, Geraerts has held one-on-one conversations with Schalke's CEO Matthias Tillmann, sports director Marc Wilmots, and squad planner Ben Manga: "These discussions were very good and positive. We talked not only about Schalke's future but also about mine."
This suggests that he is likely to stay with the club. The Schalke higher-ups have a desire to continue with Geraerts, who has an undefeated streak in six games. The fans are also warming up to the idea of him staying on.
The Family's Influence
Despite this, no final decision has been made yet. The family is the ultimate decision-maker. Last year in June, Geraerts tied the knot with Julie Vanlerberghe and they have five children ranging from 9 to 16 years old.
Geraerts plans on talking to his loved ones next week before making a definitive choice about his future. As a family man, he emphasized, "We can't ignore my family, they're the most important thing for me. I want to personally chat with my wife, not just over the phone. And then we'll see..."
Geraerts didn't finish his sentence, possibly to avoid announcing his decision in favor of Schalke.
Younes' Fate Tied to Geraerts' Decision
The possibility of Geraerts staying at Schalke is significant for Amin Younes (30), who has been unemployed since playing in Saudi Arabia. Younes has been maintaining his fitness with Schalke's amateurs and unexpectedly joined professional training. Geraerts was enamored with Younes' performance: "I really liked what I saw. His participation in next season with us is not entirely impossible."
There's definitely meaning behind his words - if Geraerts continues with Schalke, Younes will join the summer preparations and accompany the team on their trip to the Austrian training camp in Mittersill (July 8-14).
