GambleAware, a British player protection organization, denies relying on the gambling sector for financial assistance.
The British NGO, GambleAware, which focuses on the prevention and treatment of gambling-associated harm, has reacted to a slanderous accusation put forth by the non-governmental organization Good Law Project. The claims are untrue and obsolete.
Charges from March still unresolved
The Good Law Project had already raised a complaint with the UK Charity Commission in March 2024. This condemned how GambleAware shared information on possible gambling ruin.
Allegedly, GambleAware does not supply sufficient information about potential gambling harm. This might be attributable to GambleAware's ties to the industry, given that the organization receives funding from gambling enterprise levies.
Zoë Osmond, the Managing Director of GambleAware, spoke to the trade magazine iGaming Business during this time. She stated they were "quite independent" of the industry. She later offered a more extensive explanation.
GambleAware defends its perspective
Although the Charity Commission's enquiry is still underway, Osmond has elaborated further on GambleAware's stance on the accusations:
'The complaint lodged with the Charity Commission by the Good Law Project is founded upon misleading and out of date information. While we trust that this complaint will not be validated, we are worried that misleading headlines and inaccurate media articles could have a detrimental effect on our services and the people who derive support from them. - Zoë Osmond, Managing Director of GambleAware, Source: iGaming Business
Osmond expressed anxiety that offending GambleAware's actions could inflict harm. In addition, the social characterization of gambling harm is a persistent issue GambleAware seeks to resolve without causing a commotion.
GambleAware treatments exhibit impressive results
Upon evaluation, it was found that almost 90% of the gambling addiction therapies provided by GambleAware succeeded if they were finished entirely.
By means of the charitable National Gambling Support Network, which GambleAware oversees, thousands of measures with swift turnaround times have been commenced to provide aid to those in need promptly and competently.
Financing of gambling establishments remains a sensitive subject
Though GambleAware repeatedly asserts that the organization offers prompt assistance and, thus, aids those suffering from gambling harm, the core issue of interest for the Good Law Project appears to be less addressed.
The Good Law Project alleges that GambleAware is predominantly financed by levies from gambling providers and could, thus, be in a predicament of conflict. Despite GambleAware's denial, the assertion holds credence.
However, the funding of measures intended to counter gambling losses has already been considered by politicians. The proposal for a compulsory levy to the National Health Service (NHS) generates debate because not all organizations, such as GambleAware, would profit equally.
