Galaxy Macau high-end luxury boutique hotel to open next year
Galaxy Macau announced on Thursday plans to open its tenth hotel in its integrated resort on the Cotai Strip.
Galaxy Macau, owned and operated by Hong Kong-based Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), previewed in December the upcoming launch of an ultra-luxury boutique hotel. On Friday, GEG announced its latest partnership with luxury hotel group Capella Hotels in Singapore.
Capella Galaxy Macau will join nine other hotel brands in the casino complex. Capella will be Galaxy’s smallest hotel, offering just 57 suites and 36 sky villa accommodations.
Each Sky Villa features a private infinity pool, outdoor lounge, winter garden, private gardens and unobstructed views from the 17-story Capella Tower. Each suite features a private plunge pool and balcony overlooking the Cotai Strip.
The interior design was designed by Paris-based Moinard Bētaille and was inspired by the jungles and lush green hills of Macau.
“Galaxy Entertainment Group gave us extraordinary freedom to conceive Capella at Galaxy Macau,” said Bruno Moinard and Claire Bētaille. “Macau’s adventurous spirit and rich history inspired our tropical jungle theme, evoking a sense of spaciousness. "
Capella Galaxy Macau is expected to open in mid-2025.
Focus on high-end
While The Thirteen Hotel south of the Cotai Strip may have gone bankrupt and most casinos are shifting their focus from the VIP crowd to the mainstream and premium crowd following China's crackdown on junket groups, the assumption is that Galaxy Brass is leaving. Investments will continue to develop in the ultra-high-end segment and remain a solid financial company. According to Deutsche Bank, Galaxy held a 21% market share in Macau last year, second only to the Sands' 34%.
The multi-billion luxury resort on Cotai Strip is locked in a fierce battle for the remaining VIP players. Galaxy has partnered with Capella, a hotel designed for the upper echelons of society.
Capella's Singapore estate was the venue for the 2018 summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Capella was named the "World's Best Hotel Brand" by "Travel + Leisure" last year. In addition to Singapore, it also has hotels in many well-known Asian cities such as Bangkok, Hainan, Hanoi, Shanghai and Ubud. Capella Sydney is the company's only Australian location.
Capella Hotels is in the expansion phase, with plans to open hotels in Taipei, South Korea, Kyoto, Nanjing, Riyadh, Maldives and Shenzhen in addition to Macau.
Galaxy Macau Final Stage
Galaxy Entertainment opened Galaxy Macau Phase 3 last year. The company's fourth and final planned expansion at its Cotai project will focus primarily on non-gaming operations and deliver on its $3.4 billion commitment to the local government in 2022 in exchange for a 10-year extension of its gaming license .
Galaxy said it will soon begin construction on a new 4,000-seat concert hall that will "enliven the local arts and cultural scene". Phase 4 also includes a so-called "high-tech" amusement and water park.
Galaxy executives said the main focus is to continue positioning Macau as a "world center of tourism and leisure."
