Football match - Funkel expresses interest in continuing: "I am open to it"
Friedhelm Funkel has acknowledged that his final game as coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern isn't necessarily his final gig as a coach in the future. Following their 0:1 defeat against two-time victors Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Cup final, the now 70-year-old remarked on Saturday night at Berlin's Olympic Stadium, "I'd be open to continuing again at some point."
Funkel, a coach for nearly three and a half decades following his professional playing career, emphasized that he couldn't commit to this being the end of his career. He only joined the traditional Palatinate club in February and helped keep FCK from dropping down to the second division.
The past three months, Funkel admitted, had "consumed a lot of energy." He's looking forward to recharging his batteries on Monday.
