Free Streaming Channel Launches in the USA from Sports Betting Platform FanDuel TV Extra
FanDuel, a popular sports betting provider, launched their own TV channel named FanDuel TV back in September 2022. Now they're expanding their offerings with a new, completely free streaming channel called FanDuel TV Extra. This channel will feature even more live sports events that can be bet on while watching.
A plethora of live sport for bettors
FanDuel TV Extra aims to broadcast more live sports than any other free streaming channel out there. With over 12 hours of daily broadcast time, viewers will have plenty of options to choose from.
To ensure a diverse range of content, FanDuel has secured broadcast rights for games from the German Basketball Bundesliga. This is just the beginning, as more international basketball leagues, horse racing events, South Korean K-League soccer matches, and poker tournaments are set to join the lineup.
In addition to these live sports broadcasts, FanDuel TV Extra plans to provide additional entertainment for sports betting enthusiasts. This includes expert analyses, player interviews, and other content that would appeal to people interested in sports betting. The channel is also developing some unique, recurring show formats for their audience.
Could FanDuel be taking on ESPN head-on?
The expansion of FanDuel's streaming and TV services could potentially be seen as a challenge to ESPN, a well-known US sports channel that has also launched its own sports betting provider in collaboration with gambling company PENN. According to a survey by YouGov, around 63% of respondents said they would be more likely to place bets on live streaming of sporting events if such opportunities were made available.
While ESPN might have an advantage due to its high reach, FanDuel seems to be taking a different approach. They're working on increasing their presence in the TV and streaming world instead of relying on a partner's reach, as confirmed by Kevin Grigsby, Senior Vice President of FanDuel.
Germans are left out
Unfortunately, users in Germany cannot access these new services, as FanDuel doesn't hold a license in the country. Trying to access the streaming service will result in an error message stating that the offer is only available to viewers from the USA.
It's uncertain whether German sports betting providers will be able to compete with such services in the near future. In Germany, a group named "Alliance Against Sports Betting Advertising" has been formed, aiming to fight against the proliferation of bookmakers' ads during sports broadcasts or in stadiums.
Moreover, obtaining broadcasting rights can be a complex process both domestically and internationally. Several pay TV and streaming providers are competing over the rights to various sporting events, making the landscape quite competitive. These services are financed partly by ads from sports betting providers in Germany as well.
