Heidi Beckenbauer is back in the spotlight! Five months after her husband Franz's passing, she returns to Grosseto, Italy, for the FCR EAGLES Masters charity golf tournament – a place they both loved. Memories flood back as she reminisces about her late husband's affection for the area. Her son Joel (24) accompanies her on this trip to the beautiful Il Pelagone Hotel & Golf Resort. With temperatures hovering around 20 degrees, spring seems to be refreshing her grieving heart.
Little did she know, her connection with Susanne Schaefer, a fashion manager who tragically lost her partner Andy Brehme (63) to an unexpected heart attack in late February, would bring her comfort. Both women, mourning their significant others, have formed a powerful bond.
Golfing once more, Heidi manages to find laughter amidst her grief, and Franz is surely looking down with pride.
Beginnings
In 1999, Heidi was a secretary at FC Bayern, nine years younger than Franz. It was during a Christmas party that their connection sparked. Eight months later, their son Joel was born in August 2000. The couple married during the 2006 Football World Cup between the quarter- and semi-finals.
As Franz's health deteriorated, Heidi was always by his side. Their large wedding celebration took place at the luxurious Stanglwirt hotel in Kitzbühel with numerous friends and family present.
