The reigning champions Füchse Berlin have made it to the finals of the European Handball League once again. In a German showdown on Saturday, the Berlin team emerged victorious against competing Bundesliga rivals Rhein-Neckar Löwen, scoring a total of 33 goals against their 24. Berlin is set to face off with SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the final on Sunday in Hamburg. SG Flensburg-Handewitt secured their spot in the final after defeating Romanian champions Dinamo Bucharest 38:32 (18:11). Mathias Gidsel and Lasse Andersson emerged as the top scorers for Füchse Berlin, with both players scoring seven goals each. Juri Knorr scored seven goals for Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

Mannheim had a faster start to the game. National player Jannik Kohlbacher put them 4:2 ahead in the eighth minute, but Berlin's goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev stepped up and prevented any further scoring opportunities. Denmark's Hans Lindberg proved pivotal for Berlin, scoring with a prominent lob on a seven-meter penalty against the formidable 2.00-meter-tall Lions goalkeeper David Späth. With the score at 14:8 in the 26th minute, Berlin was well in control, and the Lions never managed to narrow the gap to less than four points. Berlin's dominance was further solidified with two quick and successful shots into Löwen's empty net, after they had opted to replace their goalkeeper with a timed penalty.

A key player in Flensburg's victory was left-back Kay Smits. He made a heartwarming return to the play after enduring a six-month hiatus due to heart muscle inflammation. Smits enthusiastically reflected on his experience, stating, "It was akin to the beginning of school after a long summer break."
