Formula 1 Reveals Plan for Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2024
Formula 1's asphalt isn't to be poured until months later for the Vegas Grand Prix's debut, yet they're already announcing Nov. 21-23, 2024, as the dates for their subsequent event.
Stefano Domenicali, the president and CEO of F1, proclaimed via press release, "We've got loads of racing in store for 2023, with the inaugural Vegas Grand Prix and more thrill-seeking comes following year".
With the 2024 season, F1 will host an unprecedented 24 races. The season kicks off in Bahrain on March 2, a new site for F1, and concludes on Dec. 8 in Abu Dhabi. "There's great interest and persisting popularity for Formula 1," Domenicali added in his statement, "and I believe this calendar provides the ideal combination of traditional races and new/existing locales."
The Vegas Grand Prix in 2023? It's 3.8 miles long and encompasses the Las Vegas Strip, along with Koval Lane and Harmon and Sands avenues, which have all been covertly converted into racing tracks.
24 for '24
To make the season more sustainable, F1 strategized adjustments for their 2024 calendar, detailed in a press release. For instance, Japan's Grand Prix will be scheduled in April, Azerbaijan's in September, and Qatar's in the last weekend of the season.
Vegas Grand Prix marks a Sunday absence for the first time since '85. Other venues—Bahrain and Saudi Arabia—are planned for Saturdays, accommodate Ramadan, the Islamic voyage of worship.
China's Grand Prix will make a comeback in the schedule - sans COVID-19 related disruptions.
