Using unjust methods - Formula 1 imposes potential punishments!
In a recent Formula 1 race in Miami, Danish driver Kevin Magnussen (31) engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct by deliberately blocking Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (39) to prevent him from overtaking. This resulted in Magnussen receiving four time penalties.
Magnussen later defended his actions, stating, "Each of these penalties was justified. But I did it for the team. I don't like these methods, but they help us - after all, Niko was able to score points as a result. But it's not the way I would like to race."
Prior to this incident, Magnussen had also been the reluctant hero for Hülkenberg in Saudi Arabia, allowing him to score points by blocking an overtaking attempt.
Now, the consequences of these actions may be more severe. The FIA is considering implementing a new rule where drivers receive an immediate drive-through penalty if they deliberately leave the track to block an overtaking attempt. This potential new rule will be discussed at a team meeting on Friday.
After the race, several team managers voiced their support for harsher penalties, while it remains unclear whether Lewis Hamilton (39) would agree. Following the race and Magnussen's honest admission, Hamilton remarked, "That's very honest and cool. We had a good and tough race - I love that. I wasn't really angry about his tactics. As a team, you do things like that."
