Amidst the struggle to avoid demotion, - Former Union Coach Fischer now shares his thoughts publicly.

The previous coach of Eisernen, Urs Fischer, has his initial interview post-Berlin exit in an uncommon setting. In the SC Freiburg stadium publication, the Swiss speaks on Christian Streich's departure during the home match against Heidenheim (1:1).

However, Fischer is also questioned about Union's unstable position in the drop zone, which worsened due to the terrible 3-2 loss in Cologne following the article's release.

Fischer: "In the end, Union has to acquire enough points to maintain their spot in the Bundesliga. It's a neck-and-neck race again." How tight, indeed! Because Mainz thrashed BVB 3:0, the Köpenickers enter the final game of the season in the relegation zone. They can no longer save themselves directly.

Urs Fischer guided Union Berlin to the Champions League

Union's unnerving descent began in the first half of the season under the formerly successful Fischer, who had earlier steered the team from the 2nd division to the Champions League in just five years. From the beginning of September to mid-November, Fischer directed the club to nine consecutive league losses. After the 0:4 in Leverkusen, the club and coach agreed to part ways as a final solution to escape the crisis.

Prior to Union's final match against Streich's Freiburg, Fischer stated: "I accept Union's and my circumstance as it was during the autumn, and we're both capable of dealing with it. Of course, I'm rooting for Union on the last day of the Bundesliga season and hope they remain up. We made the decision to part ways on November 15 for that reason. I must emphasize that!"

For a while, it seemed to be the critical move to keep Union in the league. Under Bjelica's replacement, Nenad Bjelica (52), the team regained stability, often gained points, and climbed up the table. However, after the 3:4 against Bochum, including Bjelica's dismissal and the loss in Cologne, Union are closer to relegation than ever before.

Fischer, who has been getting comfortable after the Berlin defeat, expressed, "I'm doing exceptionally well. I'm relishing the time I'm spending with my family. We've also taken care of our close friends again."

Regardless, he misses Union: "After spending five emotionally charged years together, it's natural that some memories stick."

Fischer also has heartfelt sentiments for Streich: "It's actually unbelievable what he accomplished in Freiburg. (...) First and foremost, I wish him good health. I wish him fulfillment and contentment in everything he plans to do."

Fischer's hope for Union is for them to remain in the league - that will be a challenging endeavor following the outcome in Cologne.
