### Ex-CDU politician shifts to handball team
Born in Bergisch Gladbach, the previous Bundesliga champs, VfL Gummersbach, have snagged Bosbach. The club, currently placed seventh in the league and aiming to regain their former renown, recently launched a business council.
The council's first four members have ties to business, politics, and sports. Including Bosbach, it consists of Dr. Thomas Wilk (52, Cologne administrative district President), Thilo Schmid (48, Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH Managing Director), and handball icon Heiner Brand (71, former player and coach who won world championships).
Bosbach commented, "VfL Gummersbach represents achievement and legacy, exceptional handball, dedicated youth programs, and, not least, a grounded attitude and deep ties to the region. Hence, I'm thrilled with my involvement in this club."
Since re-entering the top tier of handball (2022), VfL Gummersbach has expanded significantly on and off the field. Managing Director Christoph Schindler shared, "We've undergone significant growth lately. While we're satisfied, we must create the necessary economic conditions to maintain our present position and strive for further advancements."
Veteran player and coach Brand remarked, "The recent sporting progress is exceptional and incredibly positive. Everyone acknowledges the link between athletic success and economic opportunities. I'm excited to engage with numerous businesses eager to work with VfL in the future."
