She was abandoned to perish in the cellar. - Forever imprisoned are Lea's disturbing parents.
The court believes that the parents brutally murdered their three-year-old daughter, Lea, for selfish reasons. Father Sascha W. (40) and mother Maja (40) showed no emotion as the verdict was announced. The judge stated, "The heinous nature of this crime warranted the maximum punishment."
The brutal treatment of their child
Last fall, the parents kept Lea locked in the basement of their apartment building in Dinslaken for six long days. They tied her to a chair using duct tape, and between times, they taped her mouth and nose shut, causing her to experience several suffocation episodes, as per the indictment.
Prosecutor Jill McCuller: "The parents despised their daughter and treated her with utter contempt. The struggle for her life was a harrowing scene, the deceased Lea had fluid-filled alveoli! The victim endured periods of immense agony!"
The parents' unsettling conversation
At the conclusion of the trial, the prosecutor read out disturbing chats between the parents from NRW: "This brat is wasting our time. She drives me crazy, destroyed everything. I can't stand her anymore."
The father then wrote: "I re-taped her, dummy has ligaments on her legs, can't move. This nuisance is chaining me to the apartment. She's a nightmare." The mother commented on her child: "We know what she did to us, which is why we hate her so much. I couldn't care less about her." Shortly before her death, the chat states: "Can I throw her out the window? Just dump her in the trash, she can be disposed of."
The parents were aware that Lea would suffocate. The father wrote: "She has a significant object in her mouth, she can't swallow it." The mother replied: "Close your mouth and leave." The father responded: "I like the idea of her nose being sealed shut, it takes a lot of energy for her to breathe. We're experiencing choking symptoms, I'm looking forward to tomorrow." The following day, Lea was gone, barely having survived the ordeal.
The inhumane killing of the defenseless child shocks everyone and leaves them wordless.
After Lea suffocated horribly in her own vomit, the father disposed of her body in a canal. Then, he reported himself to the police. He claimed her death was an accident.
He weighed Lea's body down with weights and threw it into the Rhine-Herne Canal. Divers from the Oberhausen fire department eventually recovered the body.
