Following a disagreement with the 49ers, he... - "Forces" have their own supporters now!
The Veolia Towers Hamburg dance team has recently left the basketball team after a disagreement. This has left one club in the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga without their cheerleaders.
The club president, Sven Böttger, expressed his regret to the "Freie Presse": "We valued the cheerleaders highly, as they've always been an essential part of our club. We'll keep the door open for them and they're still welcome to perform at our matches."
The dance team, consisting of around 200 members of all ages, is a separate division within the e.V. Victoria Lukjanow, its leader, suggested that there had been conflicts with the basketball leadership earlier. "We had different opinions on collaboration," she told the "Freie Presse." "We didn't necessarily feel appreciated there."
These events bring to mind the disagreement at the Hamburg towers...
However, the lack of financial support isn't the issue, as Böttger stresses, "We've always funded the Clovers' travels to competitions and even purchased new costumes for them." They wanted to take their sport further and felt more appreciated at a different club.
The entire team has now decided to move to the Police Sports Club (CPSV). Founded in 1920 by a police major, the third-largest sports club in Chemnitz takes its name from its origins.
"We believe we can prosper there," declares Lukjanow. "I understand the frustration of some parents, but I didn't want this to be a public matter. At the end of the day, it's about how we've always been more than just entertainment in basketball. We play competitive sport and are German runners-up in the adult category."
Despite the departure, Böttger states that the Clovers will still be allowed to join them for future games.
On a side note: The Clovers' quarter-final opponents, Rasta Vechta, also have a dance team - the "Marleys." Vechta doesn't appear to be facing any potential change in their relationship with the cheerleaders. Vechta's advantage is that the atmosphere at Messe Chemnitz is notoriously feared by their opponents, and this is one of the reasons why Lukjanow is willing to discuss things. "There's nothing negative to say about the Clovers joining us for upcoming matches."
