Coal proxy at Hannover 96 - For the U23 promotion, there's a reward system in place.

The U23 squads of Hannover 96 and Würzburger Kickers are vying for promotion to the 3rd League in a series of two finals. The initial match is on Wednesday at Bayern's champions, followed by the second leg on Sunday at the North champions.

Würzburg is the favorite, but Hannover's youthful roster has a fighting chance. Coach Daniel Stendel (50): "It's not over yet, I've told the boys this." Discussions regarding a promotion bonus are ongoing.

Premium Plans!

Only two weeks ago, no mention of an additional payment had been made despite the championship title. There was reportedly only a brief chat between captain Fynn Arkenberg (28) and Hannover's sports head Marcus Mann (40). They were scheduled to meet again after the first leg.

There are still some unanswered questions about the promotion matches.

What is the expected turnout of spectators?

Both games have not been sold out. In Würzburg (13,090 seats), almost 10,000 tickets were purchased on Tuesday, approximately 700 guest fans from Hannover are expected. The second match in the 96 Arena (49,000 seats) has already sold more than 16,000 tickets, with hopes of up to 25,000 fans attending.

Which channel will air the games on television?

"MagentaSport" is the sole broadcaster for both games.

How many players from the 96 main team are participating?

Five! Besides veteran defender Julian Börner (33) and standby goalkeeper Leo Weinkauf (27), there are Brooklyn Ezeh (22), Kolja Oudonne (22), and Christopher Scott (21). Scott's participation in the initial leg may be compromised due to muscle issues.

Does the age restriction apply?

Yes! Only three players over 23 (born before July 1, 2001) can play simultaneously. Weinkauf, Börner, and Arkenberg are confirmed, with Popovic (29) only being able to replace one of the three. No senior players are included in the Hannover squad.

Does the away goal rule still apply?

Yes! It was abolished internationally in European cup competitions, but it remains in effect for these promotion matches. This means: 1-2 loss in the first leg, 1-0 win in the return match, and Hannover will be promoted.

What happens in case of a tie in points and goals?

The situation will be handled like the relegation between Düsseldorf and Bochum in the Bundesliga: first, extra time; then, a penalty shootout until a decision is made.

Have 96 experienced promotion finals before?

Yes, nearly 26 years ago! It was against TeBe Berlin in May 1998 for entry back into the 2nd League. Following a 0-2 loss in the first leg, Hannover won 2-0 in Hannover. The goal was scored by Gerald Asamoah (7th minute) and the equalizer by Vladan Milovanovic - with a backheel (84th). The penalty shootout was won by 96 3-1.
