Increased hostility following the game's conclusion - Football trainer receives an eye blow
On a Friday evening, the district cup final occurred on Grubenstraße's sports field, and it was attended by around 900 spectators. SV Empor Buttstädt and SV 1916 Großrudestedt e.V. went head-to-head in this clash.
Thueringer Allgemeine reports that this is the first time two teams from the Sömmerda district have made it to the finals, rather than an Erfurt-based team. They squared off in an intense match.
Coach sent to hospital
Empor Buttstädt emerged victorious, beating their rivals with a score of 2:1. Following this, tensions between the two fan camps escalated. Things were about to take a turn for the worse.
In the aftermath of the altercation, the coach required medical attention and was taken to Helios Hospital. The police have already identified the perpetrator, who now faces assault charges.
Amateur sports: increasing incidents of violence
Violence has been rearing its head more frequently in amateur soccer, as witnessed by tragic incidents like:
- A 15-year-old boy's death in Frankfurt/Main from a violent confrontation with an opponent (16)
- A referee in Hesse being surrounded by players, pulled by the hair, and beaten up
- A referee in Bremen being barricaded in the dressing room until police arrived after being beaten up
The DFB has confirmed this unfortunate trend; in the 2022/23 season, violence and discrimination incidents rose from 5847 to 6224, while the number of matches abandoned rose from 945 to 961.
