Fontainebleau Las Vegas names Maurice Wooden president
The Fontainebleau Las Vegas announced Sunday that Maurice Wooden has joined the Las Vegas Strip Casino Resort as president.
Wooden has worked in the travel and leisure industry for 36 years and has held senior positions in Las Vegas on and off for nearly two decades. He served as president of Wynn Las Vegas and served on the board of directors of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA).
Throughout his career, Morris has proven to be a leader committed to elevating the luxury hotel experience on the Las Vegas Strip," said Jeffrey Soffer, Chairman and CEO of Fontainebleau Development Company. "His solid track record, unparalleled consistency and deep knowledge of the hospitality and gaming industries give us extraordinary confidence as we continue to develop and improve our Las Vegas properties," said a statement. "
Wooden succeeds former Red Rock Resort general manager Mark Tricano as president of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Las Vegas.Last June Tricano was hired as president of the Fontainebleau Pavilion to oversee the venue's first six weeks of operation. He will remain at the property and report to Wooden.
Wooden’s hiring comes at a critical time
Wooden's appointment as president of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Las Vegas comes at a critical time for the Strip's newest integrated resort.
Last week, Fontainebleau's vice president of revenue management, Angie Dobney, announced her departure, the fourth executive departure in a month. She follows former chief operating officer Colleen Birch and chief marketing officer Shane Smith, who submitted their resignations earlier this month. Michael Clifford, vice president of casino operations, left the new casino hotel on Dec. 30.
During the turbulent times of Fontainebleau's childhood, wood could act as a stabilizing force.
"Fontainebleau Development has designed this resort with a unique, independent vision that sets it apart from any resort that exists and has ever existed on the Las Vegas Strip," he said in a statement. "This position provides I am presented with an excellent opportunity to work with a world-class leadership team to strengthen our Las Vegas community and help grow the future of the Fontainebleau brand."
Wooden has impressive gaming credentials
After joining Wynn Las Vegas in 2005, Wooden was promoted to CEO and president in 2013. Previously, he served as president and chief operating officer of Tilman Fertitta's Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas.
Prior to joining Golden Nugget, Wooden served as vice president of marketing for Mirage on the Strip Casino and vice president of operations for Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. At the time of Wooden's hiring, both properties were operated by MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM).
Bottom line: Wooden has the tools to provide much-needed stability to Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
