Kia's EV6 GT undergoes testing. - Follower Kim Kardashian's travels
The Korean electric car, known as the EV6, boasts an impressive power of 585 horsepower, allowing a swift sprint from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.5 seconds. The sports version of this EV reaches a top speed of 260 kilometers per hour - if the highways permit it.
The Lowdown
This Korean electric car not only shares its rear end with Kim Kardashian, but also its height: approximately 1.55 meters. The EV6 GT is also 1.90 meters wide and 4.70 meters long, complete with 21-inch rims and 255 tires at the front and 265 at the rear.
Stepping inside this crossover between a sedan and SUV, the GT version offers comfortable sports seats, although they are not electrically adjustable. Disappointingly. However, the interior appearance is remarkable. Accents are highlighted with vibrant green stitching on the suede seats, two 12.3-inch displays provide all necessary information, and a head-up display eliminates the need to check your speedometer. The trunk is relatively small, providing 480 liters of storage, but can be extended to 1260 liters by folding down the seat bench.
A distinctive feature of the steering wheel is a poison green rocker switch with the word "GT" engraved on it. This button ensures a thrilling driving experience.
Driving Impressions
The EV6 GT has two engines at the front (218 hp) and the rear (367 hp), which are fed by an all-wheel drive system. Activating the aforementioned green rocker switch positions the electric file from Kia for maximum dynamic performance. This involves adjusting the electric limited slip differential, suspension, and steering.
Driving this car at around 100 km/h on the freeway feels similar to David Hasselhoff's character Michael Knight in "Knight Rider" when activating "Pursuit Mode." Once the button is pressed and the gas pedal is engaged, you're left grinning at the incredible speed.
Furthermore, the Kia EV6 GT includes a drift mode, which, given enough space, will causes the rear wheels to smoke and the car to drift.
This exhilarating driving experience does come at a cost. The range for the 77.4 kWh battery is given as 424 kilometers by WLTP standards. However, considering you're unlikely to drive the car at a leisurely pace on highways and on winding country roads, the practical range is significantly less. Estimations suggest around 30 kWh per 100 kilometers will be consumed.
That said, the battery can be recharged efficiently using 800 volts, sufficient to bring it from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes while you enjoy a quick coffee break. Of course, this assumes a charger equipped with the necessary specs.
Pricing
The Kia EV6 GT is available for €72,990, including notable assistance systems such as lane departure warning, highway lane change support, Smart Cruise Control, and more. Additionally, a blind spot camera is activated when you turn, offering a convenient display.
If rocket mode and certain extras are unimportant to you, the base price comes in at a more modest €43,990.
The Final Verdict
The Kia EV6 GT is certainly a blast to drive, with a remarkable driving experience and full acceleration potential. Unfortunately, it's not the ultimate range vehicle for long distances. But then again, that's not the purpose of a vehicle like this.
