Flames frontman and soccer star Neymar causes 'environmental disaster'

Neymar, the Brazilian football superstar and ambassador for online sports betting provider Blaze, was put in grave danger after jumping into the water. As Neymar potentially prepares to leave Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), he has found himself at the center of new legal chaos in his home country for causing an environmental disaster that he described as an artificial lake.

According to Associated Press, Neymar was fined 16 million Brazilian reals (approximately $3.3 million) by a Brazilian court for not complying with current environmental regulations. It is the result of the construction of an artificial lake and beach on its property in the town of Mangalatiba.

Neymar can appeal the decision if he wishes, but a long list of irregularities would make that difficult. His reaction when confronted by authorities seemed to indicate he had no intention of responding.

Careless Ignorance

The intervention of the Ministry of Environment was due to unknown neighbors who live near Neymar's home. When they saw trucks loaded with rocks, sand, palm trees and even excavators parked in front of the palace, they allegedly contacted authorities and told them illegal activities were taking place inside.

Neymar's villa is located in Mangalatiba, about 120 kilometers west of Rio de Janeiro, with beautiful scenery. On the front is the South Atlantic Ocean, on the back are rolling green hills and mountains.

The Ministry of Environment noted that Neymar committed dozens of environmental violations during construction. These include "unlicensed construction, unlicensed diversion of river water, and unlicensed felling of land and vegetation."

Genesis Ecosistemas, the company that helped build the artificial lake, shared the work on social media. It states that the illegal water area is 1,000 square meters (10,763 square feet).

Neymar also faces scorn. Authorities reportedly told him not to swim in the artificial lake when they visited him last Friday. He ignored her and jumped in immediately.

Mangalatiba City Council may fine Neymar further. The company said it is still reviewing the incident to determine what additional charges may be imposed.

Neymar returns to Spain

It looks like Paris Saint-Germain are ready to part with their controversial star. The latest news from FC Barcelona states that the two clubs have reached an agreement on the transfer.

This is not yet final - PSG expressed a week ago that they were unwilling to part with Neymar because Barcelona would ask for too much money. However, Fox Sports Mexico reports that it has become more open to the idea.

Neymar is 31 years old, and the average age for players to retire is 35. Considering his off-field partying and non-stop antics, he'll probably be on the sidelines.

Returning to Barcelona may cause mixed feelings. Neymar's move from Brazilian club Santos to the Spanish club in 2013 resulted in a Champions League title and a multi-million dollar lawsuit.

The title was won in 2015, two years before Neymar moved to Paris Saint-Germain. Brazilian sports investment company DIS held a 40% "interest" in Neymar at the time. She accused Neymar, his family, Barcelona and others of manipulating a deal that reduced the transfer price by a percentage.

There is a lawsuit in Spain where DIS is calling for Neymar to be jailed. Last October, as Brazil prepared for the World Cup, a judge dismissed the lawsuit.
