Fire Rescue in Operation - Fires ravage Tedi's shop
Around 2:20 am, an emergency call came in. The intense glow from the fire could be seen for many miles, and a large pillar of smoke rose high in the dark sky.
The firefighters quickly sped to Ilsenburger Straße. There was a fire in a low-rise building here. Inside, the discount store "TEDi" and a kebab shop operated.
The intense firefighting efforts continued throughout the night and into the early morning. More than 100 firefighters from various fire departments were involved in trying to contain the blaze.
The origin of the fire is still unknown
It seems that the fire began in the kebab shop and then spread to the "Tedi" market. Soon after, the whole hall was ablaze, and the roof crumbled.
The exact cause of the fire is still a mystery and needs to be figured out. According to the police, the extent of the damage has not been calculated yet. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Because of the heavy smoke that developed, Wernigerode residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed that night. A message was sent out via the "Nina" warning app alerting them of this situation.
