Unsatisfactory time for 1860 - Final setback occurs with 2-0 loss
The 38th game at Grünwalder Stadion was marked by goodbyes. TSV 1860 Munich said their final goodbyes to 13 players. The list includes Philipp Steinhart (31/224 games for 1860), Fynn Lakenmacher (24/transfer to Darmstadt), Albion Vrenezi (30), and Mansour Ouro-Tagba (19). Zejnullahu, Tarnat, Starke, Ludewig (on loan), and Kurt are the five players who recently joined but are leaving the team.
During this match, Fabian Klos (36/retirement), a Bielefeld legend (462 competitive matches, 180 goals), was playing his last game against TSV 1860 Munich. Prior to the match, 1860 Munich's captain Jesper Verlaat (27) gifted Klos a Lions jersey with the number 9. Klos received a standing ovation from the crowd when he came off the pitch.
From a sports perspective, there was nothing significant about the game. The season was a major disappointment for both TSV 1860 Munich (15th place) and Bielefeld (14th place). TSV 1860 Munich ended up losing 2-0, their 18th loss of the season.
Two former 1860 players were involved in both goals. Christopher Lannert (7th minute/32 games for 1860) assisted Monju Momuluh for the 0:1 from the Lions' point of view. The 0:2 was scored by Merveille Biankadi (64th/63 games for 1860) through a long-range shot.
Lakenmacher, the departing player, shared his experiences saying, "Goosebumps again. It was fun, but of course we would have preferred a different result. However, with all the emotions, that was a side note."
After being substituted, Verlaat handed the captain's armband to Philipp Steinhart. Steinhart was then celebrated and bid farewell by the fans on the fence. Steinhart shared his feelings, "Being called up to the fence once more filled me with pride. It's a huge honor. I'm extremely proud of my time and what I've achieved. It was a fitting way to conclude my journey."
