Football in Italy and the UK may not appreciate a close association between their sports sectors and gambling, but the financial allure persists. The 2023 Women's World Cup football tournament is perpetuating this relationship, as FIFA and Tab NZ in New Zealand are banding together.

Tab NZ, which is New Zealand's official sports betting service, has inked a new sponsorship pact with FIFA, the organization in charge of football. This news has made headlines as the first gambling-related partner of the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Through this partnership, Tab NZ will obtain greater prominence at four of New Zealand's preferred competition venues, including Dunedin Stadium, Eden Park, Waikato Stadium, and Wellington Regional Stadium. This marketing deal benefits Entain, a prominent worldwide gambling company, since they recently assumed responsibility for operating Tab NZ.

Tab NZ Aims for Increased FIFA Success

Tab NZ, which experienced a decrease in revenue, hopes to utilize the football tournament to improve its operations and visibility. The business intends to organize fan engagement events that will feature promotions and other rewards. These activities will take place in New Zealand before and during the tournament.

“We’ve continuously focused on nurturing the future of sport, and last year, over NZ$12 million (US$7.5 million) was returned to sport in New Zealand, all thanks to Kiwis betting with Tab,” remarked Tab NZ Chief Marketing and Customer Officer Jodi Williams.

This latest arrangement builds on the partnership that was established between Entain and Tab NZ in May. Entain now handles all of the platform's betting and broadcast operations.

In New Zealand, the racing industry can anticipate considerable investment due to the arrival of Entain. It will receive NZ$900 million (US$550 million) over the next five years as part of the deal.

Tab NZ started witnessing increased activity toward the end of 2022, partly owing to the FIFA World Cup. The digital platforms saw an 11% jump in customers placing bets year over year, averaging 78K per week. In contrast, 2021 reported approximately 70K weekly.

This increase spilled over into 2023 as Tab NZ recorded a profit of NZ$14.6 million (US$9.1 million) for the very first time in nearly a year, reaching its budget projections.

The Women's World Cup begins on July 20 and concludes on August 20, marking the first time the event is hosted by more than one country.

FIFA World Cup - A Magnet for Predictions

The FIFA Men's World Cup in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 have one shared trait. In each instance, a video game forecasted the victor accurately.
