NRW experiences a record-low in marriages

The number of married couples in NRW hit a new low as well. Only 79,300 couples tied the knot in the past year, which is 6.8% less than the previous year. If we exclude the years affected by Coronavirus, where many weddings were put on hold, this is the lowest number recorded since the start of NRW's statistics in 1982.

Approximately 2.9% of the marriages were between same-sex partners. September was the most popular month for weddings.
