Along the Danube riverbanks - Female uncovers hand grenade in shoes
On Monday night, a 45-year-old lady discovered some ancient army boots on the banks of the Danube in Hofkirchen (Passau district). Thinking they were abandoned, she aimed to dispose of them but upon lifting them, she noticed what seemed like explosive contents.
She immediately moved to a safe distance and contacted the police station in Vilshofen an der Donau for assistance.
Upon arrival, the officers secured the area and contacted the Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation in Munich for further assistance. By midnight, specialists with the special technical group had arrived and examined the object.
Thankfully, their findings were reassuring: It was a recent Austrian military fragmentation grenade containing no detonator or explosives.
The team took possession of the object, labeling it as scrap metal and planning to pass it on to a professional waste management company for disposal.
