Female interest in online gaming evident in Brazil's industry, reveals study

Studies have revealed that the number of women involved in gambling and sports betting across the world is increasing at a steady pace. However, Brazil stands out as a country where women's participation in online gambling is much higher compared to other regions.

According to a report from ENV Media, women constitute 49% of the players in the Brazilian online casino industry, highlighting the equal interests of both sexes in these games. Previously, studies showed that women made up only around 30% of the online casino segment. This substantial growth suggests that the increasing popularity of gambling is not just limited to men.

A 2021 survey by Game Brazil found that women comprised 51.5% of the people who played electronic sports (eSports) in the country. While this does not directly relate to online casinos, it shows that women are more engaged in online gaming than ever before.

KTO, a prominent online betting operator and casino, conducted a survey that examined the gaming preferences of women in Brazil. The results indicated that female players tended to favor 'crash games' - a game where players place bets on an unstable outcome. These games require quick decisions and the odds of winning or losing can rapidly change.

Around 80% of female respondents in the survey had played crash games at some point, while roulette was the second-most popular option, accounting for 27% of online gaming activity in the country involving women.

The average age of male and female players in Brazil is 39 years old. The most active age group is 25 to 40 years, representing approximately 57% of the total participation. The 41-56 age group follows closely, contributing to 28% of the total.

The new ENV study also examined the motivations behind people playing online casinos. A major factor influencing their decision was the availability of disposable income, according to 48% of the respondents. The enjoyment and excitement derived from the games were equally important factors for 40%, only surpassing the impact of money-related concerns.

Just over one-third of the participants said that the quality of an online game played a pivotal role in their gaming choices, while referrals from friends or family members also influenced their decisions. Interestingly, only 24% of the respondents considered the regulation status of the platform as a significant factor.

The ENV study revealed that players were more likely to be under 34 years old and increasingly female. They enjoyed online lotteries, sports betting, and slots. Although table games were also gaining popularity, they were still behind in comparison.

In summary, the report emphasized that accessibility to funds, enjoyment, and the quality of the games significantly influence the decision to engage in online gambling. The legality and regulated status of the market were least likely to affect players' choices, as many seemed determined to gamble online regardless.
