In the derby, the score is currently 2-1. - FC pros triumph over Leverkusen with silverware.

Cologne U19 team, trained by Stefan Ruthenbeck (52), triumphed over Leverkusen 2-1 after extra time during the Middle Rhine Cup match on a Wednesday night.

Recently, Leverkusen experienced a disheartening loss against BVB in the finale of the German U17 tournament (2-3).

Under the watchful eyes of FC trainer Timo Schultz (42), the FC youngsters rightfully claimed an exhilarating cup victory.

Recap of the game:

62nd minute: U17 world champion for Cologne, Fayssal Harchaoui (18), received the ball in the center near the penalty area, then stormed past several opponents. He belted the ball into the right-hand edge of the net in an awe-inspiring and inexorable manner.

66th minute: Leverkusen's immediate reaction: The youngest debutant in Bayer's history, Ken Izekor (16), secured the ball about 20 meters away from the goal, swiveled his opponent, and subsequently shot powerfully into the bottom left corner.

94th minute: FC striker Marlon Becker (19) kicked a free-kick from 20 meters and sent it sharply onto the crossbar. Leverkusen's strong goalkeeper, Borys Oleniak (18), watched as the ball bounced back into play, and the captain of the FC team, Neo Telle (19), scored the rebound.

The match progressed with Leverkusen attempting in vain to score while FC's counterattacks became disorganized. 2-1 remained in favor of the Cologne juniors.

On Saturday, the FC professionals will need to manifest their ability to secure finals victories, similarly to the youthful team.

The Bayer team will be confronted with a week of finals: They must maintain their unbeaten streak against Augsburg (Saturday, 3.30 pm, live ticker available), followed by the journey to Dublin for the Europa League final against Bergamo (Wednesday). Subsequently, they visit Berlin for the DFB Cup final against Lautern (Sunday, May 25).

Ultimately, the youngsters will have to show that they're the ones who can still settle for runner-up.
