Comedic mishaps in handball for 2021 - FC Bayern faces continued struggle.
### FC Bayern's Last-Second Upside Down: Replay Needed in Handball Games
FC Bayern thought they had safely made it through the handball playoffs after losing to Regensburg II at home 26:31, but then the Altbayern district sports court turned everything upside down. Let's take a look at the events leading up to this twist of fate.
April 28: Who will be SG Regensburg II's relegation opponent? FC Bayern won the first leg at home against TSV Niederraunau with a score of 30:24. Niederraunau had a tough challenge ahead of them: they needed a miracle in the second leg.
May 1: The handball miracle happened. Niederraunau took the win in the second leg 46:39 after extra time, with the regular time ending at 39:33. However, this didn't seem fair according to the BHV rules, which didn't allow for extra time in the lower amateur division. Since FC Bayern had scored more goals away from home than Niederraunau, they would have actually been considered the losing team.
The technical delegate Gottfried Rathgeber, who had been specifically appointed for the game, and the refereeing duo Julian Beinlich/René Finsterwalder, were unaware of this rule.
Judgement of the District Sports Court: The second deciding game for the league playoffs must be rescheduled. This means that FC Bayern will now need to play against Niederraunau again, and the winner of that game will need to play against SG Regensburg II, as long as the higher authority of BHV confirms this decision.
But, it's debatable whether all three clubs will have the ability logistically and with their personnel to replay the drama of the relegation games. We'll have to wait and see what the BHV has to say with regards to this decision. Unless, of course, BHV allows all three to continue playing in the Landesliga. [TOC]
