Catamaran overturns in the Baltic Sea. - Father and son braved waters for 90 minutes to survive

On a Wednesday evening, two men were sailing on the Baltic Sea between Wohlenberg and Boltenhagen (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) in a rented catamaran. However, they encountered technical difficulties, causing their boat to capsize and throwing both men into the water.

The fire department in Boltenhagen reported, "We found a capsized catamaran in the coastal area between Wohlenberg and Tarnewitz. There were no people present on the boat."

This incident led to a massive rescue operation with the participation of the fire department, water rescue team, helicopter, diving team, water police, and the German Maritime Search and Rescue Association.

A sense of relief set in after 90 minutes in the water when both men had reached shore on their own. However, they were extremely concerned about each other's well-being, having lost sight of one another following their plunge into the ninety-degree Baltic Sea.

Their saviors were wetsuits and life jackets. According to Mathias Hacker, head of operations at the Boltenhagen fire department in "Ostsee Zeitung," without these protective items, they wouldn't have had a chance.

The son emerged from the boat disaster unscathed, while his father was admitted to the hospital with suspected hypothermia. Hacker commented, "Such operations rarely have such happy endings. We are overjoyed that the men were rescued and so well prepared."
