FanDuel Seals Agreement with NFL Sunday Ticket
FanDuel, the top US online sportsbook operator, revealed they are partnering with NFL Sunday Ticket to provide bonus bets for their customers and draw in new football fans to join the package.
Owned by Flutter Entertainment, the world's largest online gaming company, FanDuel announced that from August 21 to September 18, new customers who sign up will receive $200 in bonus bets and $100 off NFL Sunday Ticket once they place a $5 wager. Current FanDuel patrons who bet $5 will also get $100 off the football viewing service. This is part of FanDuel's broader marketing push as their third season as an Official Sports Betting Partner of the NFL.
Along with this promotion, FanDuel will launch a new advertising campaign throughout the season highlighting new features including Parlay Hub and FanDuel Explore. These features are expected to draw in enthusiastic fans by engaging them during the games of their favorite teams.
Currently, NFL Sunday Ticket has four packages at $299, $339, $399, and $439, after a $50 discount valid up to September 19. The 2023 NFL season kicks off on September 7, Thursday.
NFL Sunday Ticket's Future on YouTube Uncertain
Since its inception in 1994 by satellite television provider DirecTV, NFL Sunday Ticket (NFLST) has been popular among football fans because it offers access to out-of-market games and the regional contests aired each weekend by CBS and Fox.
For instance, a Philadelphia Eagles fan in Los Angeles can satisfy their team cravings by subscribing to NFL Sunday Ticket. It's estimated that NFLST contains 1.5 to two million users.
In recent months, YouTube, owned by Alphabet's Google, acquired NFL Sunday Ticket, allegedly winning over Apple and other competitors. However, DirecTV has experienced subscriber losses from the football package, and it is uncertain how YouTube will tackle these losses.
A latest survey by Kagan's MediaCensus disclosed that only 17% of respondents were "very interested" in NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube, while 16% were "somewhat interested." The remaining 67% had no interest at all. Additionally, current YouTube TV subscribers do not seem thrilled about the NFL viewing plan.
"YouTube TV subscribers were less likely to be very interested in NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube (20%) than subscribers to other virtual multichannel services such as fuboTV and DIRECTV Stream (37% and 33%, respectively)," commented S&P Global Market Intelligence. "YouTube TV subscribers had the second most signifiant portion expressing no interest in the NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube at 58%, not quite as high as among Frndly TV subscribers at 64%."
Perks for FanDuel
In terms of market share, FanDuel is the number one choice amongst US-based online sportsbook operators, leading considerably in the competition.
Although it's unclear how FanDuel will take advantage of this partnership with NFL Sunday Ticket, they might attract more bettors through the association and the possibility of turning football spectators into die-hard fans who enjoy placing bets.
Moreover, FanDuel plans to debut FanDuel Explore during the upcoming football season. This service offers betting education, parlay builders, and various other resources to aid smaller bettors.
