FanDuel leads horse racing betting app, DraftKings “Place”
Horse racing is one of the oldest forms of betting and it's getting a much-needed boost thanks to technology, and FanDuel is the leader in pony betting apps.
FanDuel has become the largest online sportsbook and is leading the development of mobile horse racing betting apps, according to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming (EKG). Compared to sports betting apps, pool betting apps are still young and there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out.
Apps generally don't perform particularly well compared to their OSB counterparts, as testers reported multiple bugs, broken buttons, and a lack of payment options," EKG noted."Considering the impact of these products on the market Both are relatively new and rely heavily on third-party technology providers, which is no surprise. But compared with OSB and OC, its lack of polish is obvious. "
Still, technological advances remain crucial at a time when there are "some signs" of renewed interest in horse racing betting. FanDuel is 95% controlled by Dublin-based Flutter Entertainment (OTC: PDYPY). Boyd Gaming (NYSE: BYD ) owns the remaining 5%.
Where horse racing betting app FanDuel thrives
Mobile betting apps are all about convenience, and that’s exactly where FanDuel excels in the pari-mutuel world.
As EKG points out, FanDuel is currently the only operator that allows wallet and account credentials to be shared between its online sports betting and racing apps, and "does a good job of minimizing friction when switching between these products." .
The operator also scores in another important but overlooked area: educational content. While many sports betting app users may be considered experienced sports bettors (whether successfully or not is debatable), they are not necessarily familiar with pool betting. In this regard, educational content is valued by bettors, and FanDuel fulfills this need.
"The vast majority of bettors using these OSB-branded racing apps come from sports betting backgrounds and are relatively new to horse racing. However, only FanDuel offers suitable educational content for beginners," EKG added.
DraftKings solid second
DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG ) is the second-largest online sportsbook by market share, behind FanDuel. These two pairs most often compete for the top spot in betting apps, so it’s no surprise that the former has his own solid horse racing app.
EKG found that the DraftKings racing app works well and may even have some advantages over its FanDuel counterpart.
The research firm concluded: “Perhaps unsurprisingly, DraftKings Horse is the second-best operator in our rankings and is probably even better thanks to the largest selection of markets in the test pool and fast bets such as racetrack jockeys Competitive.”
EKG also tested related apps from BetMGM, Caesars and PointsBet and found those products were "a step (or more) behind" the top two.
