Actor Til Schweiger takes the spotlight. - Famous actor requires heart operation.
Lately, Til Schweiger (age 60) encountered a life-threatening condition known as sepsis or blood poisoning. In extreme scenarios, there was potential for an amputation of his leg.
To combat this, a medical implant shaped like a metal tube (Editor's note: referring to a stent) was inserted into his heart. Friends revealed this was due to Schweiger's long-term cigarette smoking habit.
Prolonged smoking can contribute to blood vessels hardening more rapidly. It could even cause narrowing in the coronary arteries leading to a life-threatening heart attack. Therefore, stent implantation is generally necessary for smokers earlier than for non-smokers.
For Schweiger, who embarked on a challenging journey to curb his heavy alcohol consumption last year, the procedure could be another detrimental blow to his health.
It seemed he had gotten past the sepsis and his "open leg" had healed. He even shared a cheerful Instagram photo from a private jet just two weeks ago. After spending weeks recovering from the blood poisoning at a clinic on Mallorca with intravenous antibiotic therapy, he traveled to Berlin for a few days. Here, he was seen in good spirits in a luxury restaurant with friends. Two weeks ago, the ailing star mentioned he was in the capital to attend a birthday party.
However, now his daughter Luna is by his side, offering support during this difficult time.
