F1 Receives Backlash on Social Media for Preventing Views of Vegas Race
The upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix isn't just going to be blocked from pedestrians' views by privacy screens. Oh no, it's turning into a bigger fiasco than we initially thought.
We found out recently that someone was tearing off the privacy screens that F1 crews installed. But guess what? That's not the end of it. They're not just relying on screens to block our views. They're going all out with an extensive view-blocking system!
There's a giant metal cage being put up on all bridges crossing the racetrack. This metal cage is not just to prevent people from throwing things onto the racetrack, threatening the drivers' safety, but also to make sure no one tears the screens or tries to climb over them for a peek at the race. Fan or not, the view-blocking measures are infuriating locals and tourists alike.
Fuming on Twitter
On Twitter, an outrage is brewing among Las Vegas locals and visitors who see these metal cages as an annoyance, not a necessary security measure.
@andy73690988: "Fantastic job by the Las Vegas Tourism Board, really making people feel welcome." - The sarcasm is strong in this tweet.
@JordanXRP1985: "That bridge looks like a pen for cattle and farm animals! Get along now you slow-moving tourists! Nothing to see here!"
@alex_nassif: "I understand why they do this, but why so early? Could've done it the week of the race."
@JasonSarcinelli: "Destroying tourists' trips, hurting tourists and destroying locals' lives for 6 months... so .00000000002% people will actually make money for 3 days. GFY Vegas."
@matteberhardt1: "No words. To my knowledge, F1 doesn't bend over European cities like this... It's disgusting to me what's being done here. It's a bad look for both F1 and Vegas."
@epalascianook: "Cross the bridge and don't you dare look, you peasants."
@flickrfumes: "One event that pretty much ruins the whole strip experience. I'm rooting for it to lose huge money."
YouTube video from Jacob Orth shows the construction of one of the bridges: link Here
In Jacob Orth's YouTube video, you can see the cage being built. The impact on the Las Vegas Strip experience is undeniable, leaving many feeling frustrated over what's happening. There are rational reasons behind these measures, of course, but they still induce a sense of annoyance from many.
