Former national team player in the hunt for a coach at Bayern - "Extremely awful"
Following Bayern's 2:4 loss at Hoffenheim on the last game day, sporting director Max Eberl stated that Roberto De Zerbi, who was let go by Brighton, won't be Thomas Tuchel's replacement. Eberl, in an interview on "ZDF-Sportstudio," agreed when asked if he could "vigorously oppose" the idea of Tuchel's successor being Italian: "Yes."
With previous rejections from Julian Nagelsmann, Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick, Oliver Glasner, and Tuchel himself, it's clear that De Zerbi won't be taking over.
René Adler, Germany's former national goalkeeper, also commented on "Sportstudio": "That's really bad for the external image of such a big club. If you have the type of self-image they've built up in recent years, a lot has gone wrong this season. It's one of the biggest clubs in the world, and you'd think there would be fierce competition for its coaching job. But many coaches are saying no, and that's making FC Bayern look a bit ridiculous."
Thomas Müller, Bayern's forward, also had a word regarding the continuous rumors about Tuchel leaving. The international Müller: "If I let my emotions control each rumor, then I would have been very busy the last few weeks. Even in the last 10-15 years, there have been speculations of him moving to the second floor. You never know which one was true and which one wasn't."
Müller continued: "FC Bayern is strong enough to eventually present a coach who will lead us to our first training session in July. Then, we'll strike back. People often say that FC Bayern is in a weak phase right now. We'll see how things turn out in the end. I've just been awakened a bit."
The new Bundesliga season starts on August 23rd. Who will be sitting on the Munich bench at that time?
