Radical ideologies - Expert: The Sylt video normalizes extreme right-wing material.

As per expert Pia Lamberty, the Sylt video displaying racist slogans highlights the growing normalisation of right-wing extremist content within our society. "In the absence of any opposition, societal values are being disregarded," remarks the Co-Director of Cemas, a centre dedicated to examining radicalisation patterns and conspiracy theories online. "Individuals can propagate extreme remarks publicly without any fear."

The racist occurrence during Whitsun at a fancy restaurant on Sylt sparked uproar throughout Germany. In the short video that spread like wildfire on social media, youngsters shout "Foreigners out" and "Germany to the Germans" to the party hit "L'amour toujours" by Gigi D'Agostino. Police are currently looking into the matter. Remarkably, similar incidents involving Nazi slogans have been reported in Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania lately.

Lamberty believes that the song "L'amour toujours" is increasingly being associated with racist slogans. "This has a profound impact," she states. "Right-wing extremists are cleverly generating societal acceptance of such hate speech."

The Sylt incident underlines Lamberty's belief that "Right-wing extremism is not just an issue restricted to eastern Germany or communities with lower income levels, but also among the well-to-do."

The real danger, according to Lamberty, lies in the potential power these people can hold, structurally. The video underscores: "Racism thrives even among those who've studied at universities or hold managerial positions." Right-wing extremism and racist views can be found across the social spectrum.

For Cemas' Lamberty, those targeted by racism could choose to steer clear of places where such comments go unopposed, such as in this situation, in the long run.
