Experience Classic Mac OS Versions Directly in Your Web Browser
In the '80s and '90s, using a Mac computer meant experiencing the precursor to today's macOS - what is now known as "Classic Mac OS". Reminiscing about it, you might think finding an old Mac on Craigslist is the only way to run this operating system again. However, that's not the case.
InfiniteMac, created by Mihai Parparita, is a website that hosts virtual machines running various classic Mac operating systems from 1985 to 2001. Browse through the collection, select one that catches your eye, and hit the "Run" button.
All the OSs will load directly in your web browser, so there's no need for installation. Some helpful stickies guide you around, and a mounted hard drive filled with games and other useful files adds to the experience.

On top of that, InfiniteMac offers a "Saved HD" drive where you can store anything you create, which gets saved locally on your computer. Any other OS you fire up on the site will have access to these files. Plus, you can drag files from your computer and find them in the "Outside World" folder within the emulated system. It's a seamless, user-friendly interface.
Besides macOS, InfiniteMac also boasts working versions of NeXTSTEP. Developed by Steve Jobs after his departure from Apple, NeXTSTEP had several concepts and code that would later become components of the macOS we're familiar with today. While not many remember using this system due to its high cost, playing around with these emulations can show you the roots of the modern macOS. It's a captivating journey down memory lane to a particular stage of computer history.

The current macOS, which debuted in 2001, has been in use longer than the "Classic" OS, which lasted just 16 years. In fact, Mac OS X, which came out in 2001, has been around for more than two decades now. And the iPhone launched in 2007, making it older than the Classic Mac OS as well.
