Concerning findings during thorough examinations - Every third truck driver found under the influence of alcohol.
During Sunday night, officers at Gau-Bickelheim (RLP) inspected 20 truckers. Shockingly, one in three was intoxicated!
These inspections occurred at parking areas on the Rheinhessen Auto-bahn post-driving ban at 10 PM. Regrettably, a poignant milestone was set by a driver (34), found to be behind the wheel with a staggering blood alcohol level of 1.65 per mille.
This unfortunate individual wasn't the only one: four other drivers were too inebriated to continue operating their vehicles.
Four weeks back, these checks could have potentially steered clear from a severe event: On the Auto-bahn near Kehrig, a tipsy (under the influence) truck driver nodded off at the wheel, crashing into a parked truck. Just days before that, Schleswig-Holstein cops had intercepted a completely drunk (over 3 per mille) Lithuanian trucker.
