Enjoy Whitsun in style - Events to occupy kids during a three-day break
Enjoy three glorious days off and hopefully some spring weather! Who wants to spend it indoors? Especially during Whitsun, many families love to bond together.
But how can you make both kids and adults smile?
A Whitsun picnic is a timeless tradition
Plan a day dedicated to an outdoor picnic at a nearby park, a serene forest spot, or even by the beach during one of your days off.
First, find the ideal location for your Whitsun picnic. Could it be a park, a picturesque part of the woods, a playground, or even the lakeside? Choose a place with ample space for everyone to play and roam freely.
Next, consider each family member's preferences when packing the picnic basket. There might be vegetarians or young ones to take into account, as well as considering how the food will be transported and stored (will you need a cool bag?).
Don't forget: Blankets, plates, cutlery, napkins, drinking cups, a picnic blanket, baby bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, plasters...
Whitsun activities for indoor or outdoor enjoyment
- Hold a craft session where children can create Pentecost-themed symbols using different materials, like doves, flaming tongues, or flowers.
- Set up an al fresco painting event where the kids can sketch or paint their surroundings.
- Have fun with a Pentecost-themed quiz or puzzle. Ask the kids questions about the significance of Pentecost and its traditions, and reward them with small treats for correct answers.
Outdoor Whitsun pursuits
- Bring the little ones and adults to the zoo or animal park for a day of discoveries about the animals, their homes, and their behavior.
- Visit a local farmers' market, exhibit, or festival during Whitsun. Spend some quality time together checking out all the vendors and attractions.
- Join in on a Whitsun procession or a neighborhood parade.
- Go on a quick little hike through the neighboring countryside with the kids and gather flowers and leaves to create home-made crafts or nature art projects.
