Eulogy for Ober-Rabbi: A Tribute by Moving Habeck - Europe becomes more vibrant with the presence of Jewish culture.

At a celebration in North Rhine-Westphalia, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) expressed his admiration for Goldschmidt. He urged people not to be silent against the hate towards Jews and described Goldschmidt as an important figure in the fight against anti-Semitism. The Charlemagne Prize committee chose Goldschmidt, an influential figure within the European Jewish community, for his dedication to fostering peace, self-determination, and European values. Typically, this esteemed award is presented in the Coronation Hall of Aachen's city hall.

In his address, Habeck contended that anti-Semitic sentiments have become more noticeable in Europe than in the past few decades. Goldschmidt, the President of the European Rabbinical Conference, is being recognized for representing European Jewish traditions and enhancing the overall richness of European culture. The esteemed European Rabbi has also been honored for his commitment to peaceful living and European unity.

Moreover, Habeck suggested that Europe needs a more vigorous stance in the world. He insists that for Europe to survive in a contested global climate, it must strengthen its foreign and security policies, create a collective financial policy, and reform existing institutions.

Habeck stated that despite excelling at creating regulations, Europe was in danger of being too preoccupied with its own system. He cautioned the population against complacency, emphasizing that Europe's strength lies in its ability to evolve and adapt to evolving challenges. Arrogance, in his opinion, undermines Europe's effectiveness and competence. Europe can no longer rely on its past accomplishments to ensure its future.

Notable people who have received the Charlemagne Prize include Pope Francis and French President Emmanuel Macron. It's worth noting that last year, both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky (46) and the Ukrainian people were recipients of the award.
