Airbnb promotes excitement. - Enjoy a night's stay at the "Oben" residence.
Brian Chesky, the CEO of Airbnb, is eager to make his platform stand out in the competitive hotel industry. To achieve this, he has introduced a new section called "Icons" in the app, featuring unique overnight experiences.
Affordable Icons Experiences You'll Love
Would you believe that some people can enjoy these once-in-a-lifetime experiences for less than $100 a night or even for free? Yes, you heard it right! However, the catch is that there are only 4000 of these "golden" tickets available this year.
To obtain one of these exclusive tickets, a group is first chosen randomly from the pool of interested applicants. After that, Airbnb decides who will be fortunate enough to receive the prestigious award. The applicants must express their passion for the experience in their application.
One of the current eleven Airbnb icons is a house that replicates the one from the movie "Upstairs." It even has a handmade interior based on original Pixar sketches. But, sadly, even thousands of balloons can't lift the 18-ton house into the air. So, a crane was used to erect wind turbines instead, and the building was strengthened to hang in the air, but only when it's empty.
The Barbie House in Malibu: The Turning Point
This revolutionary concept was first introduced through the Barbie House in Malibu, which was available for exclusive booking on Airbnb for two nights in 2019. Chesky remarks, "The Barbie House generated more interest than our IPO."
Streamlining Group Travel with Airbnb
Airbnb aims to simplify group travel, which accounts for 80% of bookings but was previously "unnecessarily complicated."
Soon, travelers will have the ability to message their host in a shared chat. Wish lists and voting options will also be available for group planning purposes.
"I want to change the things that the general public doesn't like," says Chesky. "Over-tourism is an issue - but only because too many people visit the same places at the same time. Airbnb is attempting to redirect tourist flows to different places."
