Zurich’s History Unveiled Through Ten Extraordinary Lives at Sihlfeld Cemetery
The installation features ten figures whose lives reflect Zurich’s evolution. Among them are Heidi author Johanna Spyri, who moved to the city in 1852 after marrying lawyer Bernhard Spyri, and architect Arnold Bürkli, known for shaping Zurich’s urban landscape. Others include activist Emilie Lieberherr, filmmaker Lazar Wechsler, and writer Walter Mehring, each representing different eras and influences.
The installation offers a vivid portrait of Zurich’s growth through the lives of its residents. By connecting personal histories to broader change, it highlights how the city expanded from a modest core to a modern metropolis. The exhibition runs until July 2026, with free access during opening hours.
