Zeulenroda tribes aim to set a record with their longest leash and socks.
In the picturesque Vogtland region of Thuringia, the small town of Zeulenroda-Triebes is gearing up for an unusual world record attempt. The city administration is organising an event to set a new record for the "longest clothesline with the most socks."
Zeulenroda-Triebes, with its history deeply rooted in the sock-making industry, is celebrating its 700th anniversary this year. The motivation behind this record attempt is to celebrate this significant milestone in the town's history.
Over the past several months, approximately 150,000 socks, 130,000 clothespins, and over 14 kilometers of laundry lines have been collected from across Germany in response to a call for support, as reported by the city administration.
The socks to be used are either washed or completely unworn clothing items. The record currently held is for hanging 107,886 socks on a line 10.08 kilometers long, set by the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West four years ago.
Residents, visitors, and voluntary record enthusiasts will hang the socks and clothespins on the line at the Waldstadion by evening. The official monitoring institute for Germany, TÜV Thüringen, will verify the documentation of the record attempt.
The official record announcement for the longest clothesline with the most socks is expected in a few days. An unofficial announcement of whether Zeulenroda-Triebes has broken the record will be made in the evening.
This record attempt is not just a fun event for the town, but also a way to bring the community together and celebrate Zeulenroda-Triebes' rich history in the sock-making industry, which remains present in the town today. The event is taking place in Zeulenroda-Triebes, Germany.
