Zero-Emissions Mobile Charging Unit Developed by Mullen (MULIN)
Mullen Automotive, Inc. (NASDAQ: MULN) has announced the development of a zero-emissions version of their mobile EV charging solution, PowerUP. The new PowerUP mobile charging truck is based on Mullen's all-electric Class 3 EV cab chassis truck, the Mullen THREE.
The previous model of PowerUP utilized a gasoline Class 5 cab chassis platform and a dual-fuel (propane/natural gas) power generation unit. However, the shift to a 100% zero-emission model reflects Mullen's commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
The new PowerUP is designed to deliver recharging at a higher level of scalability and performance while offering zero emissions for both the vehicle and power unit. It features Level 3 DC fast charging, off-grid AC power, and micro-grid connectivity, making it suitable for multiple applications.
The peak capacity of the new PowerUP system is 160 kWh, scalable to 1 MWh. It offers two Level 3 Fast Chargers, each with a 60 kW output, and a 20kW (up to 160kW) AC Output. Additionally, it provides 12V jumper terminals, solar and wind off-grid power generation options, and a bi-directional 480V grid connection.
The new PowerUP mobile charging solution can be configured to meet various market needs, ranging from 10kW to 1MW. It is ideal for use in noise-sensitive environments like urban centers, hospitals, parking garages, campuses, and residential areas, as it offers quiet operation with minimal noise pollution, unlike traditional fossil fuel powered generators.
The development of PowerUP aligns with Mullen's vision of creating a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem built in the United States. The company's acquisition of battery pack production assets from Romeo Power significantly accelerates the development of PowerUP as a battery-based mobile charging solution.
David Michery, CEO and chairman of Mullen Automotive, stated that they are innovating to meet industry needs. "We are excited to introduce the new PowerUP mobile charging truck, which represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide sustainable and efficient charging solutions," he said.
The new PowerUP is being developed at Mullen's High Energy Facility in Fullerton, California. PowerUp EV, the company currently developing the zero-emissions model of the mobile EV charging solution, is looking forward to bringing this innovative product to market.
PowerUP was first introduced in July 2023 as a mobile EV charging truck capable of delivering level 2 and level 3 DC fast charging. The new PowerUP takes this innovation a step further, offering a more efficient, scalable, and environmentally friendly solution for the growing electric vehicle market.
