Youth, local security forces, and community members unite for coastal cleanup effort in the town of Sulu

On Friday, August 29, 2020, a coastal clean-up activity took place in the village of Tandu Bato, Luuk, Sulu. The event was spearheaded by Luuk Councilor Jhana Mayam Arbison and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president.

The activity was attended by representatives from various government agencies, security forces, and local residents. Participants included the 545th Engineering Battalion, 15th CMO Battalion, 101st Infantry Battalion, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and civilian residents. SK chairpersons, youth, and personnel of the 1102 Infantry Brigade (1102Bde)'s Civil-Military Operations (CMO) led by Captain Julibert Pelong also joined the initiative.

The coastal clean-up activity was held at Man's Beach and Ana Bay Boulevard. The participants were organized into groups and assigned specific coastal areas for waste collection. Waste segregation was strictly observed during the activity, with recyclables being separated from non-recyclables.

The main purpose of the coastal clean-up activity was to safeguard marine life from plastic pollution, preserve the balance of coastal ecosystems, and protect human health from contamination. Luuk Councilor Jhana Mayam Arbison emphasized the importance of cooperation among the youth, local residents, government agencies, and security forces for the success of the clean-up.

The event also aimed to promote local tourism and support the economy. The coastal clean-up activity was covered by the website Zamboanga, highlighting the community's efforts towards preserving their environment and fostering a cleaner and healthier coastal area.

The organization "Task Force Sulu" also participated in the coastal cleanup, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation. The event marked a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable Luuk, Sulu.
