Meet Constantin Bräutigam: A Multi-Talented Organist at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg

Constantin Bräutigam, a 24-year-old organist with short brown hair and glasses, is making waves at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg. Hailing from a musical family, with his father also being a church musician, music has been a constant in Bräutigam's life.

Bräutigam's journey into organ music began later than for most, but his passion for the instrument was quickly ignited. Piano, however, was a part of his life from a young age. In a one-day entrance exam, he demonstrated his proficiency in piano, organ, improvisation, singing, and conducting, showcasing his versatility and dedication to his craft.

Bräutigam's fellow students at the university are as diverse as the music they listen to. Ages range from the early 20s to mid-40s to early 50s, with some pursuing music as a new interest, while others are looking to build a second career or change professions. This diverse group creates a vibrant and dynamic learning environment.

The university, which has consistently had around 360 music study places for years, is facing a concern about a significant decrease in church finances. The decrease is due to church exits, abuse scandals, and demographic factors. Despite this challenge, the university continues to provide Bräutigam and his fellow students with access to various instruments, including organs and pianos, for practice, both at the university and in local churches.

In his free time, Bräutigam enjoys listening to hip-hop, reflecting the diverse musical tastes among his peers.
