In the vast expanse of Yakutia, also known as the Sakha Republic in Russia, the regional forest protection service is currently grappling with a significant challenge. As of the start of the day, there are 72 active forest fires burning across the region, according to the latest reports.

The Tomponsky District is home to 10 of these fires, while the Olekminsky and Aldansky Districts each host 15 and 10 active forest fires respectively. The Neryungrinsky District, too, is not spared, with 9 active fires raging within its boundaries. The Kobyaysky District, however, has only 5 active forest fires.

The exact area covered by these fires in the Neryungrinsky, Aldansky, Kobyaysky, and Tomponsky Districts remains unspecified. However, the total area engulfed by these active forest fires across Yakutia is a staggering 130,368.1 hectares.

Simultaneously, 23 new forest fires covering 2,678 hectares were discovered, adding to the existing fires.

Despite the daunting task, progress is being made. Within the past 24 hours, 9 forest fires covering 1,916 hectares were successfully extinguished in the republic.

The responsible authority for detecting and extinguishing forest fires in Yakutia is typically the regional forest protection service under the regional government of Yakutia, often coordinated with the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM). This coordinated effort is crucial in managing the current forest fire situation and preventing further spread.

The situation remains under close monitoring, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
