The city of Almaty is facing a deteriorating epidemiological situation, with a 1.2-fold increase in COVID-19 cases on average since the beginning of December 2020. This alarming trend has prompted the authorities to take immediate action to prevent a mass outbreak of the virus.

Mayor Bakytzhan Sagintayev has set tasks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, with Yerjan Babakumarov, the Deputy Mayor, taking the lead in overseeing these efforts. Babakumarov has emphasized the importance of personal responsibility, especially among the heads of various sectors, in implementing the tasks given to combat the virus.

The management is tasked with ensuring the proper protocol for swift medical assistance and hospitalization, given the increasing infection rates. This is crucial in managing the situation and providing timely help to those affected.

In response to the rising cases, Babakumarov has instructed district akimats to strengthen the work of monitoring groups and expand the list of checked high-risk infection objects. These include airports, stations, large public centers, large enterprises, public transport, and entertainment venues.

The increase in cases has also highlighted the risks associated with public places, public transport, and entertainment venues. About 65% of the 1426 COVID-19 cases registered in the last two weeks are residents of multi-apartment buildings. This underscores the need for strict control over the operation of restaurants and other public mass gathering places.

To address this, it has been ordered to strengthen the disinfection and treatment of doors, handrails, elevators, and other mass-use areas systematically. The name of the head of the "KSK" and "OSI" of the city of Almaty, who ordered these measures, has not been publicly specified.

In addition, the city's "Atameken" Entrepreneurs' Palace and the Federation of Trade Unions will conduct appropriate explanatory work to ensure businesses strictly adhere to all epidemiological requirements to ensure the safety of their staff.

An online meeting was held by Deputy Mayor Yerjan Babakumarov, involving heads of city departments and district akimats, as well as the head of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of Almaty, Zh. Bekshin. Special control has been ordered over the observance of sanitary and epidemiological requirements in courtyard stores and pharmacies.

It is crucial that everyone takes these measures seriously to protect themselves and their communities. The increasing infection rates highlight the importance of adhering to sanitary and epidemiological regulations and the need for regular disinfection in public places. By working together, we can help stop the spread of COVID-19 in Almaty.
