In a tragic turn of events, Yemen's Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Sanaa on Friday. The strike occurred during a routine workshop held by the government to evaluate its performance over the past year.

The Israeli military stated that the target of the strike was a Houthi terrorist regime military target in the area of Sanaa in Yemen. This is not the first time Israel has launched strikes against the Houthis, as tensions between the two parties have been escalating.

The Houthis have repeatedly launched missiles against Israel throughout Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza. Moreover, they have targeted ships in the Red Sea during the same conflict. The Houthis claim these attacks are in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Israel, along with a US-led coalition, has pounded rebel-held areas in Yemen, including Sanaa and Hodeida. Earlier in the week, Israeli strikes hit multiple areas across Sanaa, killing at least 10 people and wounding 102 others. The Houthi-run health ministry and government officials reported these casualties.

The Houthis did not stop attacking targets believed to be aligned with Israel, despite the deal with the Trump administration. The Trump administration announced a deal with the Houthis to end airstrikes in return for an end to attacks on shipping, but the rebels did not agree to halt attacks on targets aligned with Israel.

The Houthis' continued attacks have not been deterred by Israel's ability to intercept most of the missiles launched by Yemen. Those that do not get intercepted often fragment mid-air, but the Houthis persist in their attacks.

The Houthis' prime minister, Ahmed al-Rahawi, served as the head of the Houthi-led government since August 2024. His death is a significant loss for the Houthi movement and Yemen as a whole. The events in Yemen continue to unfold, and the international community watches with concern.
