In the heart of Yakutsk, the city's bustling Ordzhonikidze Square is undergoing a transformation. The city hall has announced that the asphalt at the square will be replaced with cobblestones starting this summer, with the project expected to be completed by September 2022.

The decision to replace the asphalt with paving stones is a response to the concerns raised by citizens. Numerous complaints about bitumen in asphalt cracks damaging shoes have prompted the city to take action. The old asphalt concrete covering is being dismantled and replaced with paving stones, ensuring safety and ease of repair.

The reconstruction of Ordzhonikidze Square is not involving major changes, as previously reported. The Oiunsky monument and the fountain, two iconic landmarks of the square, are not mentioned as being affected by the repair work. Earlier, a major repair of the fountain was carried out before the season closed.

The media outlet YAKUTIA.INFO has reported on the reconstruction of Ordzhonikidze Square. Blogger Dmitry Mikhailov, also known as Trimid, had earlier asked questions about the reconstruction, but no specific details about his questions were provided in the city hall's response.

The bitumen in the asphalt cracks softened under sunlight, causing issues. The replacement of asphalt with cobblestone and the painting of some elements are part of the reconstruction. The Oiunsky monument will undergo slight renovation as well.

The reconstruction of Ordzhonikidze Square has begun, and Yakutsk residents can look forward to a more durable and aesthetically pleasing square in the coming months.
