Yakutia's Governor rewards "Children of Asia" medalists with heartfelt letters and monetary awards
In the heart of Siberia, the city of Yakutsk played host to the VIII International Sports Games "Children of Asia" from June 26 to July 7, 2024. A total of 39 talented boys and girls from Yakutsk and Yakutia represented their region and country on an international level, competing against the best athletes from abroad and other regions of Russia.
The games, which have been held in various locations including Yakutsk, Sakhalin, Primorye, and Kuzbass over the years, saw the participants excel in 16 different sports. The young athletes hailed from diverse nations such as Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Georgia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, North Korea, China, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Mongolia, Palestine, Pakistan, South Korea, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan.
Their hard work and dedication paid off, as they brought home a total of 49 medals. The medals included 14 gold, 15 silver, and 20 bronze. On July 8, Yakutsk Mayor Evgeny Grigoryev honoured these young champions, presenting them with letters of gratitude and cash prizes of 30,000, 20,000, and 10,000 rubles.
Coaches of the young athletes were also recognised for their invaluable contribution, receiving awards from the Mayor. In his speech, Mayor Grigoryev thanked the parents of the winners for their patience and belief in their children, expressing his admiration for the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by all the participants.
The VIII International Children's Sports Games "Asian Children" in Yakutsk in 2024 were organised by the Yakutsk City Administration. The games, which trace their origins back to 1996 when they were first organised in Yakutsk at the initiative of the first President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Mikhail Efimovich Nikolaev, have become a cherished tradition, fostering unity and promoting sportsmanship among young athletes from across the globe.
Mayor Evgeny Grigoryev concluded by congratulating and thanking the athletes for their hard work and success, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in their chosen sports. The city of Yakutsk and the people of Yakutia are proud of their young champions and look forward to their continued success in the future.
