Wynn Resorts sues Bona Film Group chair over HK$4.73M gambling debt

Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. has taken legal action against Chinese film producer Yu Dong over an unpaid gambling debt. The lawsuit, filed in Hong Kong on 3 March 2026, claims the Bona Film Group chair owes HK$4.73 million. Yu's legal team insists the debt has already been settled and is working to dismiss the case.

The dispute stems from a HK$10 million credit line Yu obtained from Wynn Macau in 2024. The terms required repayment within 14 days, with an annual interest rate of 18 percent. According to the lawsuit, Yu failed to clear the debt, leading to the current legal battle.

Yu serves as both chair and president of Bona Film Group, one of China's largest film companies. The firm recently announced financial struggles, reporting potential losses between RMB1.26 billion and RMB1.47 billion. These issues, however, are linked to declining box office revenue and fewer film releases—not the legal dispute. Bona has launched an internal investigation into the matter. The company maintains that its operations will continue as usual, as the case involves Yu personally rather than the business itself. As of now, no public response or regulatory changes have emerged from the Chinese film industry regarding the lawsuit.

The case centres on a gambling debt that Yu's lawyer claims has been repaid. If unresolved, the legal proceedings could prolong uncertainty for both parties. Bona Film Group, meanwhile, faces separate financial challenges as it navigates a difficult period for China's cinema sector.
