Workshops for Interview Readiness
For almost 15 years, a mentoring project has been making a significant difference in the lives of young people in Zierenberg. The project, which operates in collaboration with both general and vocational schools, has been instrumental in preparing students for job interviews, particularly for apprenticeships.
Recently, a "Fit for the Job Interview" training was held at the Elisabeth-Selbert School, where 10 volunteer professional mentors guided 64 students through the process of presenting themselves confidently and convincingly in real job interviews.
The mentors, who undergo regular further training and reflection discussions, serve as experienced, competent, and empathetic conversation partners. They offer valuable and helpful feedback on application documents and personal appearance, helping young people to improve their chances of securing an apprenticeship.
The feedback from the students has been overwhelmingly positive. One student commented, "I had never had a job interview before. It's good to know how something like this works, and I now know what I can improve."
This year, the mentoring project has reached a record number of over 400 young people, providing them with individual support through "tandems on time." The project is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.
The volunteers, who enjoy their commitment and contact with young people, are typically from organisations like VDI-Xpand, Hamburger* mit Herz e.V., or similar local initiatives dedicated to integration, education, and career support for migrants and job seekers.
